The team that started the modern day era from 1983

The arrival of Jim Docherty to Whitburn in the early eighties saw the team finally awaken from being a sleeping giant into a real force in the East Region Junior game, a position we still hold today. Docherty was the first 'real' striker I remember Whitburn having and he had played for Chelsea amongst other senior teams. Whitburn prior to this (from my memory) dodged between the old A and B Division but from 1983 onwards they finally got ambition and promotion. They have stayed in the top division since, the only gap being when they elected not to go into the Super League in it's inaugural year.
