Tranent started the game at lightning pace and penned Whitburn in their own half for the first 5 minutes with Stephen Manson coming close with a shot from a tight angle which Dougie Horne blocked at his near post. When Whitburn did get out they didn’t seem to be able to pass well and a number of players looked out of sorts. Manson had another chance on the quarter hour, this time from the right after he got free of his markers and his diagonal shot found the bottom corner. Just 3 minutes later Dewi Taylor chased down a dribbling Sinclair Inglis, the home keeper, and robbed him before attempting to find the net from an amazingly acute angle but his effort hit the outside of the post. On the half hour a cross from the left was headed towards Ben Millar by Kenneth McMillan but the former’s shot was well saved. Taylor almost equalised again with 9 minutes till the half after good combination between Adam Porteous, Gary Brass and Kris Russell but Inglis blocked his shot.

Whitburn came out with far more purpose in the second half and within 7 minutes had scored the elusive equaliser scored by James Martin having been put in by Martin Russell. 11 minutes later Kris Russell put in Brass whose initial shot came off the home keeper straight back to him at such pace that the ball flew out for a bye. Just a minute later Kris Russell got into the box and again Inglis made the save. Tranent, having weathered this early pressure, then started to press and had two decent attempts before they finally broke the deadlock with 10 minutes to go. The first was good turn and shot by sub Kenneth Fisher which Horne got down well to to make the save. Then a speculative cross from the left by McMillan hit the bar but went to safety. The eventual winner came courtesy of Lewis Hawkins who glanced a wide free kick past Horne with the merest touch of his head. Whitburn were unlucky 3 minutes later when a shot was cleared off the line and with 5 minutes to go Horne made a great double save to deny Kayne Paterson. Tranent were able to hold out for the remainder of the game to give themselves a great chance of winning the title which they can do if they win next week’s game at Rosyth.
